March 11, 2010: Conference 'Chair A. Van Melkebeke'
The Chair A. Van Melkebeke 2010 will be granted to Prof. dr. Paul De Grauwe Hoogleraar Faculteit Economie & Bedrijfswetenschappen K.U.Leuven As a co-host with Lessius, we invite you to the yearly conference associated with the Chair A. Van Melkebeke, which will take place at our campus on March 11. The Chair A. Van Melkebeke was first granted in 1984 as a tribute to the accomplishments of the former dean of the Antwerpse Handelshogeschool (now Lessius), Mrs. Aline Van Melkebeke. By then, Mrs. Van Melkebeke had been leading the school for 25 years and as such played an important role in the development of higher education in the Antwerp area. It was under her management that the first evening classes for postgraduates at the Antwerpse Handelshogeschool (formerly known as CPA) were launched in the seventies, as well as the first MBA-course in Antwerp, now 30 years ago. This led to the formation of Flanders Business School as we know it today, and we're glad Mrs. Van Melkebeke kept impeccable records of her work in those early years! FBS participates in the conference by hosting the evening program. Dr. Paul De Grauwe (K.U. Leuven) will open the evening session with a critical lecture on the status of economic science. Next, Caroline Ven, Chief of Cabinet Socio-economic Policies at the Prime Minister's Cabinet, will reflect on the future of Belgium's economy. The final part of the evening session is dedicated to the official graduation ceremony for our newly graduated MBA-students. Conference program: - 12.00 am: Lunch Session "J.M.
